History of Galentine’s Day

Believe it or not, we can thank Amy Poehler for today’s celebration. Well, kinda. Her fictional character, Leslie Knope, from the comedy series Parks and Recreation, created the term during the show’s second season in 2010. She explains in the episode, “What is Galentine’s Day?” Oh, it’s simply the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our spouses and boyfriends at home and simply come to kick it… females celebrating girls.” So, basically, it’s the best bogus holiday ever!

How is the Day celebrated?

The original Galentine’s Day has given way to… well, it depends on the friend group in question! A celebratory brunch is one way that Leslie and her friends celebrate the day on the program, but there are plenty of other options as well. Having a sleepover with your gal pals is a great idea. Including pyjamas with a heart print, a bottle of wine, and plenty of chocolates.
