On February 14, you’ll either experience the pinnacle of romance or the height of cheesiness, all depending on your feelings on Valentine’s Day. I think we can all agree that Galentine’s Day is far better than Valentine’s Day, which is on February 13th, in case you didn’t know. Less about serious romance and more about enjoyable friendship, this holiday is all about spending time with your besties and pampering them with cute gifts. I mean, really, how exciting is that?
Let’s explore what this day is, who introduced it to the world, and some ideas in this blog!
What is Galentine’s Day?
To put it plainly, Galentine’s Day is similar to Valentine’s Day, but it’s exclusively for women! Even though it isn’t officially sanctioned, it is very much a thing in the eyes of all the girls. The holiday falls on February 13 each year and is geared towards celebrating the women in your life. Anyone you care about, whether they’re best friends, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, or anyone else, this is your opportunity to express your feelings. Though you should and can do it any day of the year, it’s more enjoyable on a designated day.
History of Galentine’s Day
Believe it or not, we can thank Amy Poehler for today’s celebration. Well, kinda. Her fictional character, Leslie Knope, from the comedy series Parks and Recreation, created the term during the show’s second season in 2010. She explains in the episode, “What is Galentine’s Day?” Oh, it’s simply the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our spouses and boyfriends at home and simply come to kick it… females celebrating girls.” So, basically, it’s the best bogus holiday ever!
How is the Day celebrated?
The original Galentine’s Day has given way to… well, it depends on the friend group in question! A celebratory brunch is one way that Leslie and her friends celebrate the day on the program, but there are plenty of other options as well. Having a sleepover with your gal pals is a great idea. Including pyjamas with a heart print, a bottle of wine, and plenty of chocolates. For a more Galentine’s themed girls’ night out, you might go to the salon for a day of pampering or have supper and drinks before hitting the dance floor. Another great idea that we adore is a great party!

Galentine’s Day party ideas
1. Get excited about a theme
Get in sync and wear the part if you and your gal pals share my enthusiasm for a certain topic. If you’re more of a traditionalist, maybe you should just use red and pink. Perhaps you would want to stay in and wear similar pyjamas. Whatever it may be, just make sure to capture a group pic before the end of the night.
2. Arrange your own flowers
Arranging a bouquet to perfection is a true work of art. Paddle wire, water tubes, garden shears, four different shades of green tape, and anything else you and your pals could possibly need are all part of this seventeen-piece set. Get someone to stop at the flower shop on their way to the celebration, and then the decorating can begin!
3. Make fondue
Ah, cheese, the ultimate crowd-pleaser. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. Consider melting some chocolate instead if that doesn’t appeal to you or if you’re lactose intolerant. In any case, your Galentine’s party will be the talk of the town with this fondue set.
4. Plan a “my favourite things” product swap
Anyone who has used TikTok for more than, oh, three years has definitely seen a “my favourite things” switch. Just bring a few things you really can’t live without and share them with the rest of the group. By the end of the event, you will have a few new things you are excited to try and will be looking forward to hearing your friends’ opinions on your selections. For some cosmetics and skincare items that your pals would so want to steal from you, see up there.
5. Invest in (themed, duh) balloons
Get picture-perfect decorations by blowing balloons and taping them to a wall or bar cart! Your Instagram feed won’t know what hit it!
6. Make personalised goodie bags
You will adore this if receiving gifts is one of your love languages. Get yourself a few colourful bags—I recommend totes because they can be used again and again! before stuffing them with items that your pals enjoy! You can show your friends how much you value their friendship and attention by including personalised gifts that you know they will adore.
7. Host an at-home mani-pedi night
Maybe you could spend a couple of million dollars at the nail salon for an average experience where you might not even be seated close to each other. Or! You could all chip in a few dollars to get a high-quality gel manicure kit that you can use at someone’s house (where you can gossip uninhibitedly).
8. Have a bake-off
No one beats a good old-fashioned friendly competition where everyone comes out on top! (Unless, of course, you have serious culinary skills issues, haha.) Determine who can create the most visually appealing and flavourful rendition of a given recipe. But a cake in the shape of a heart would be very adorable!
9. Do a paint-and-sip night
Gather your painting materials, a few bottles of your preferred alcoholic beverage, and a reference picture to work from. Perhaps a pizza, which everyone loves? The actor Timothee Chalamet, perhaps? Let your imagination run wild!
10. Brunch. It. Up.
Nothing puts the ladies in a better mood than a brunch of breakfast items and mimosas around 12:30 in the afternoon. Waffles in the shape of hearts, together with eggs, bacon, bagels, croissants, muffins, and any other breakfast goodies your friends like, are the perfect way to celebrate one of the most romantic holidays. For an added special touch, try arranging all of the dishes on a charcuterie board. Your breakfast board needs an Instagram Story.
11. Get some karaoke mics
Get your girl group fix by getting together with your best friends and singing along to your favourite songs. A YouTube video with the lyrics, a cool karaoke microphone, and an enthusiastic crowd are all that’s needed.
12. Assign everyone a Secret Cupid
This is G-Day’s version of Secret Santa. A gift is brought to the party by each individual who draws their name from a hat. Present them with an item they will put to good use, like this fierce candle.
13. Just do all the face masks
If it’s wrong to spill the beans while wearing a mask, then I don’t want to be right. It will leave your face feeling incredibly hydrated, and anyone can choose the sort they want.
14. Watch a classic
Watching a film about friendship will help you stay on topic. Enjoy it on a movie projector for an even more intimate experience!
15. Take Polaroids
For a more retro look, try using a Polaroid camera to record the evening. Not only are the results entertaining to look at, but they can also serve as party favours or decorative items!
